BIOGRAPHY
FAITH XLVI
(b. 1979 Cape Town, South Africa)
Liberty Du is a multidisciplinary artist, who goes by the moniker Faith XLVII. Her artistic journey began in South Africa, where she initially gained recognition for her evocative graffiti. Over the years, her work has expanded beyond iconic murals in public spaces around the world to sculpture, video installations, tapestries, paintings and drawings.
Her artistic language is an exploration of where spirit, nature, activism and ritual intersect, imbued with a sense of reverence for the mysteries that exist beyond the layers of perception. In quest of the divine, she expresses a longing for a deeper connection to the wisdoms of the natural world. There is, too, an active investigation and questioning of the human condition, its deviant histories and our own inherent existential searching.
Faith XLVII’s debut museum exhibition took place at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, France, in 2023. Her work has also been exhibited at institutions such as the Calais Museum of Fine Arts, the Bernard Magrez Foundation in Bordeaux, the Straat Museum in Amsterdam and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, among others.
