Everard Read London presents an exhibition of new paintings by South African artist, Denby Meyer.
Meyer's collection of new paintings arrives amid the northern hemisphere summer and captures the intense light, foaming surf and blue-green ocean so vividly you can virtually taste the salt on your lips, feel the hot sand underfoot and hear the hollers of the beach volleyball players.
In The Lightness of Summer, Meyer continues her role as faithful recorder of moments she has observed - both anecdotal and universal, asserting what has been seen and extending an invitation to see for ourselves, to experience what has been seen by another.
Some works observe the subjects at eye level, amidst their beach towels and umbrellas, while others offer a more detached, birds-eye perspective of surfers and beach walkers, the pattern of footprints tracing their movement across the sandy expanse.
