DIRECTOR'S SELECTION | May 2026
15 May - 13 June 2026
This selection of works brings together a group of artists exploring the complexities of human nature through themes of politics, history, and societal pressure. They explore collective struggles, as well as personal meditations.
From Lorienne Lotz’s reflections on oppression and art history, to Boytchie’s critique of hustle culture and anxiety, each artist offers a distinct yet interconnected perspective. Maja Marx challenges viewers through works that resist passive viewing, while Claude Jammet explores memory and transience. Wilma Cruise explores the intersection of human and animal, evoking silent, existential struggles. Swain Hoogervorst’s hazy flowers confront the unreliability of memory and the dream-like feeling we give it.
Jane Eppel’s autobiographical etchings use motifs from the natural world to explore the events of her own life. She homes in on the interconnectedness of it all, whether it be big or small. The peaceful calm of her prints disguises the physical rigour involved in the laborious etching process. Nadja Daehnke’s faceless figures confront questions of identity, while Brett Murray’s sculpture explores South Africa’s social climate with humour and irreverence.
Together, these works create a dialogue that reflects on enduring questions of identity and the structures that shape our lives.
