Our September 2026 director's selection draws upon quintessential South African landscapes, documenting the beauty and wildness in its flora and fauna.
The South African vista comes to life through a forest of Nic Bladen's botanical sculpture. Leigh Voigt captures trees with a transportive realism, as does Tanya Poole in her exploration of the natural world and ecological histories.
Arabella Caccia captures the ephemeral beauty of seasonal transformation, while Atang Tshikare takes inspiration from zoomorphic shapes and the dialogue between the natural and the man-made in his minimalist sculpture.
Claude Jammet’s delicate oil paintings evoke the eternal cycle of life and the fleeting nature of all living creatures. Wilma Cruise takes the iconic image of the baboon and injects it with charm. In his portraits of feral dogs, Daniel Naude conveys their primal nature in these remote and rural landscapes.
Penelope Stutterheime's introspective 'inner landscapes' draw upon an abstract sense of the word, along with Lucinda Mudge’s hypnotising use of pattern and colour.
