Pia Capelli: This is a turning point in your work. While in your most recent exhibition, “La pelle attraverso,” you focused on the border between the Self and the world, here you have “come back,” showing landscapes that are closer to mental spaces. I know that these works are the result of a long period of transformation. What is changing in your work?

Alessandro Papetti: I used to work on motionless things, finite thoughts: I would use my way of painting, my quick gestures, to animate the object and give it a sense of movement and speed. Now, instead, I’m working on the flow of my thoughts as they come to me, when the idea is being conceived. This has a great deal to do with memory, which usually offers images of objects that are complete and finished. Anticipating memory is impossible, I know, but it is as if over these last few months of work all I had to do was try to steal milliseconds to be able to paint the moment when an idea, a thought, is born. It was not a rational attempt; it was the need to follow, or anticipate, the flow of my thoughts.

CIRCA Gallery London is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Alessandro Papetti. Entitled, I Live Here, the exhibition is Papetti’s first in the UK and will include oil paintings as well as works on prepared paper. Many of the paintings were made at the Palazzo Poli in Rome where the artist was in residency leading up to his solo exhibition there in September 2015, while others were completed in his studio.

South African artist Shany Van den Berg, who is represented by Everard Read Galleries, has been selected for this year's BP Portrait Award Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. 

Her portrait, Self, was one of 53 selected from more than 2500 entries and this will be the fourth time the artist's work will be shown in the exhibition, previously exhibiting in 2009 '  dit is ek Gladys'  and 2010 'Bloedlyn '.

The BP Portrait Award 2016 will run from 23rd June- 4th September.

CIRCA London opened on 18 March 2016 with a group exhibition showcasing the work of exceptional contemporary artists from around the world.

The Opening Group Show continues until 23 April.
