Everard Read London presents: Destructure - a solo exhibition of sculpture and paintings by celebrated South African artist, Lionel Smit.
In this new body of work, Smit continues to explore themes of identity through portraiture on canvas and bronze sculptures. For the artist, the human face offers an endless source of study and his work accentuates facial characteristics through bold swathes of colour and brush techniques, highly-textured bronzes and vivid patinas.

South African artist Lionel Smit is one of 80 artists who have contributed their work for a striking collection of bear images, as part of a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) exhibition currently on display in China.
This is to draw much-needed attention to the cruel treatment of bears in circuses.
Peta Asia vice-president Jason Baker said: “Over 80 of the world’s most caring actors and artists have helped Peta create beautiful bear-protection pieces.”

Art Angels Africa brought their annual charity auction to London for the first time this month, auctioning works by top South African artists. Several Everard Read artists donated works for the auction, including Beezy Bailey, Deborah Bell, Phillemon Hlungwani, Angus Taylor, Rina Stutzer, Lionel Smit, Colbert Mashile, Dylan Lewis and Nic Bladen, along with Sam Nhlengethwa and Marco Cianfanelli.
